FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We will continue ministry right here! We have no plans to relocate! We have been a presence on or near this present facility for over 140 years. We have no intention of abandoning it, selling it, tearing it down or moving from it. In fact, we are going to be upgrading it. Our sanctuary is unbearably hot each summer because we do not have air conditioning. Our 11:00 AM Contemporary worshippers swelter. Our Sunday night Youth and Adult Bible Study participants melt. We have even had some loyal members attend elsewhere in the summer – elsewhere being somewhere, anywhere with air conditioning.
What will the upgrade to the sanctuary cost? The initial estimates from two air conditioner companies are around $35,000 (depending on how we do it).
What is this Capital Campaign all about? First and foremost, this Capital Stewardship Campaign is a spiritual journey for our entire church. We will study scripture together in small groups and recommit ourselves to what God is doing as He calls us to be an “Acts 2 Church: serving family, community and world together.”
Second, we are: a) honoring our past. We have had over 140 years of continual ministry presence (and still counting) and that is something to honor. We will be committing ourselves to paying off the debt on our two parsonages: $117,247.00; b) celebrating our present. We will be air conditioning our present sanctuary: $35,000(estimate) and paying off the debt on the 27 acres on Homerich: $436,000.00; c) committing to our future. We will be planning and building Phase One on our “Extension campus.” We are now calculating the cost for design and building.
What is Phase One? Phase One is a multipurpose/gymnasium Family Life Center with kitchen and stage, restrooms/showers and rooms for a fitness center (“Holistic discipleship” focus) and computers for homework center. The other phases have not been completely defined as of yet. We are meeting with architect firms now and will be defining “what next” in the coming months.
Why now? Our “Extension Campus” (on Homerich) will provide much needed additional space for increased outreach into our community and for growth in our present ministries. We are not moving from our present location but merely expanding our presence westward. We’ve reached capacity in our current facilities. Our youth especially are cramped in the basement and have no space to grow. Our ministry presence in the community has been greatly restricted by being land locked. God has opened an avenue for us to truly live out the third part of our church’s mission statement, “committed to serving family, community and world.” We have a vision to be a prevailing church that meets real needs in our community while reaching people for Christ. In order to respond to this blessing by being able to welcome those who come in the future, we must provide this additional space. Our current situation clearly calls for immediate action now!
When do we begin? Now. We have already stepped out in faith to purchase the 27 acres on Homerich across from the West Middle School. We now need to pay for the land, upgrade our present sanctuary and then phase one building. As soon as we have a design we will break ground.
How will the funds be raised? The funds will be commitment pledges by our members during our “Acts 2 church: committed to serving family, community and world together” capital stewardship campaign, October 23 – November 20, 2005. To pay for this we will be doing back to back 3 year Capital Campaigns. Our sacrificial gifts of time and resources will be for a minimum of six (6) years.
How will the commitments be made?
Commitments will be made
either by giving weekly, monthly or annually over a three-year period.
Commitment cards will be signed at the Leadership Commitment Event on November
12 and the Celebration Event on Sunday, November 20. Some may also be led to
give non-cash gifts such as stock, real estate and jewelry.
Will monetary commitments be made public? No. Absolutely not.
Can commitments be changed, if necessary. Yes, you may either increase or decrease your commitment at any time the Lord leads
Will I have a chance to review the plans and ask questions prior to making my commitment to the ”Acts 2 church: serving family, community and world together” program? Yes, there will be information meetings scheduled during October (the 23rd and 30th) and throughout November (November 6 at 12:30 PM) and via small groups, where this can be discussed..
Will new members be asked to help fund the project? Yes. New members will be contacted by the Follow-Up Team and given the opportunity to make a commitment to the project. |
